lake above the Krka waterfalls, some 30 min drive inland
from Skradin marina. A real treat in the shoulder season.
Skrivena Luka ("The Hidden harbour") - Lastovo island
Almost invisible when sailing around Lastovo, this former
pirate hideaway, is now a pleasant bay ideal for a lazy
afternoon's swimming and snorkelling, and don't forget to
try the lobster and Scorpion fish in the tavern at the
bottom of the bay.

championship in 1989 and European championship in 1990.
Windsurfing's younger, sexier cousin kitesurfing is just
blooming into its own industry as windsurfing shops and
resorts begin to carry all of the specialty equipment that
kitesurfing requires and providing lessons on how to get
started.
Kitesurfing involves riding a lightweight board behind a
kite that pulls the rider over the top of the water.
Kitesurfing is also considered a highly skilled activity and
requires lessons for first timers.
The best kitesurfing is found at the same spots that
windsurfing is popular.
Korčula, the Pelješac peninsula, Hvar, and
other placess. Most shops that rent equipment provide
lessons and safety instruction, most require that you
complete one of their classes before you take their
equipment out.

SPEARFISHING IN CROATIA
Spearfishing New Year Cup at Mali Losinj, Croatia
Every year Mali Losinj, the largest place on the island of
Losinj, (the Croatian Island located in Kvarner Gulf)
organises a New Year’s Cup in spearfishing (underwater
fishing).
The event includes two competitions, the Winter Cup of
Cities and the European Cup of Nations, and this year it
will be hold from 28th to 30th of December.
The Winter Cup has been held 47 times and the European Cup
37 times, pooling spearfishermen (underwater fishers) from
ten nations.
The bond between Mali Lošinj and underwater fishing is
attested to by a monument to the spearfishermen - the work
of sculptor Ante Starcevic of Zagreb, who created the
monument based on the original by sculptor Vinko Matkovic of
Rijeka.
Spearfishing - Underwater fishing or apnoea (temporary
cessation of breathing) fishing is numbered among the
extreme sports as it entails many hours of extreme exertion
at great depths, working at the limits of physical strength
the fishers are subjected to, and the many potential dangers
present in these conditions. It is the most selective kind
of fishing as the fisher chooses the fish he or she will
catch.
And while it is a sporting discipline, spearfishing
knowledge has always been passed on among a small body of
enthusiasts. Fish rich locations are kept a top secret.
Spearfishing is attracting a growing number of hobbyists and
professionals from year to year.
The New Year’s Cup in Mali Lošinj, like some other
international events, are an indicator of the excellence of
the top athletes and their exceptional physical
and psychological preparedness.
Any island far away from coast is good for
spearfishing(underwater fishing). Less people on island,
more fish in sea.
The underwater relief offers a variety of bottoms and the
underwater visibility is very good.
The most interesting game for spearfishermen is all of the
game mentioned above, together with various mullets, brown
meagre and, of course, the queen among them all, the
grouper.
Before embarking on a fishing expedition it is necessary to
obtain a license. To obtain a license it is necessary to
present proof of identity (passport, driver's license etc.)
Licenses are issued by tourist agencies and offices in all
towns along the coast.
Licenses are issued for recreational angling, underwater
spear-gun fishing, hand trolling, long lining and tuna
fishing. The whole Adriatic Sea is open for fishing and
special limitations are applied in aquatoria of national
parks (Kornati, Brijuni, Krka, Mljet), and for some smaller
locations.

RAFTING IN CROATIA
Rafting the rivers of Croatia is a wonderful way to
experience the unspoiled Croatian interior.
Along the coast, the rivers are flanked by green banks and
karstic canyons.
The grade of difficulty for most rivers is 3 but rises to
grade 4 on the Dobra and Una rivers. Following are some of
Croatia's best rafting rivers: Rafting is popular on the
Cetina river, but the best place to go if you want to drift
through canyons and hit the whitewater is Karlovac. With
three rivers converging within just a few miles, there are
multiple trips you can take from your base camp at Karlovac.
If you do decide to run the rivers around Karlovac, your
first day trip should be the Kupa river. The Kupa runs
through Risnjak National Park, allowing you to see the park
from the inside out and see the complete path of the river
as it winds its way along. Unfortunately, the Kupa river is
only high enough to raft during the spring. Your second
day of rafting should be on the Dobra River. The Dobra was
the first river in Croatia to have commercial rafting trips
grace its waters and is one of the most popular places to
get wet with whitewater.
Lush forests and mountains border the interior rivers.
T.
Croatia's best rafting rivers:
River Kupa flows from the Risnjak National Park,
flowing between forest-covered mountain slopes and rich
valleys, but offering sufficient water for rafting only in
spring and after heavy rainfalls.
River Dobra has a surface course and an underground
course and offers first class rafting conditions at all
times because dams and accumulation lakes permit a
sufficient flow through of water.
River Mrežnica abounds with waterfalls, but between
them the water flows calm. Rafting through the upper, canyon
course involves elements of canyoning.
River Korana issues from the Plitvice lakes. After
heavy rains and when snow melts the section below the
picturesque site of Rastoke, and downstream through the
canyon, is particularly attractive.
River Una, which forms the border between Croatia and
Bosnia, provides excellent rafting conditions downstream of
the 20 metre-high Štrbac(ki buk waterfall, when the waters
are running high, although the experience is somewhat less
exciting when water levels fall.
River Zrmanja abounds with water in springtime, while in
summer smaller craft - canoes and kayaks - must be used to
travel this, the most beautiful of Croatian canyons.
River Krka can be negotiated through the upper part
of the
national park due to the inflow from its tributary, the
River Butišnica, which is controlled by a dam. Rafting is
the only way to really get to know this undisturbed area of
the park, and the only place where a detour by land is
necessary is the 12 metre-high Bilušića buk waterfall.
River Cetina waters are directed via a tunnel towards a
power plant on the coast, which means that there is not much
water for rafting in its natural canyon bed. The experience
is still worth undertaking if only because of thick and lush
vegetation along its banks, the clear waters, high cliffs,
waterfalls and caves.

SEA FISHING IN CROATIA
Croatia is a country rich in fishing opportunities.
For the angler there are varous small and bigger fish to be
caught all along the Adriatic Coast , as well as various
fresh water fish species in many of the rivers and lakes.
Local people in Croatia have long fishing tradition so it
will always be somebody to give visitor info and tip where
and how to fish.
Any island far away from coast is good for fishing. Less
people on island, more fish in sea.
Local people from Korčula, living on the island surrounded
by the sea, has a long are steady tradition in sea fishing.
That tradition is going on from the ancient times when
fishing was a important source of food finding.
Fishing is particularly developed in villages Lumbarda and
Vela Luka. Lumbarda is famous for, so called, ' small

fishing - guarantee a pleasant stay.
In the area of Kornati National Park recreational fishing is
allowed only if the interested visitors previously provide
themselves with recreational fishing permits which can be
obtained in the premises of Kornati National Park Office or
at the receptions in the area of the Park. Recreational
fishing permit allows fishing using no more than three
fishing-lines with no more than five angles and/or using
fishing-line with squid fishing hook (fishing light is not
allowed). The maximum weight of the fish caught per day is
up to three kilograms, and the catch must not be used for
selling purpose.

SCUBA DIVING IN CROATIA
With more than 5800 km coastline and about 1180 islands,
Croatia (eastern part of Adriatic sea)
are among the most beautiful in the world and provide
idyllic settings for scuba diving.
The eastern Croatian coast of the Adriatic sea lies on karst
and is full of underwater caves, archaeological sites and
wrecks ranging from Roman galleys to an Austro-Hungarian
liner and second world war shipping.Bigest treasure for
attracting all kinds of divers is rich flora and fauna.
Croatian waters are rumoured to be among the clearest in the
world. They offer scuba divers a wide range of
excellent scuba diving opportunities. On the best days, you
might have about 25 metres of visibility under water,
which is an exceptional distance.
The oldest localities containing the remains of sunken ships
date from the times of Antiquity, and are to be found on the
ancient trading routes leading from Greece towards northern
Italy, and all the colonies founded along that route on the
shores of the Adriatic: Cavtat
(Epidaurus), Mljet (Meleda), Korčula ( Korkira), Hvar (
Pharos), Vis (Issa), Split(Asphalatos / Spalatum), Solin
(Salona), Trogir (Tragurium), Rogoznica (Heracleia),
anchorage sites in the Kornati archipelago (Žirje, Lavsa,
Murter), the wider area of Šibenik and Zadar (Liburnia /
Jadera), Pula(Pola),
Roman villas on the Brijuni islands, and many other
micro-locations once used by ancient mariners as refuges and
anchorages.
The best scuba diving opportunities are mostly found along
the southern parts of the coast, and on the many Croatian
islands' sea-facing sides. These areas are also the parts
that offer the most diverse scuba diving opportunities,
because the southern parts of the coast are closer to deeper
waters, which makes fish types more varied and plentiful.
Split
is the main centre for flight and ferry connections.
Nearest dive location is Bol on the
island of
Brac. The more remote island of Vis is another good
introduction to Croatian scuba diving. The town of Komiža
on the western tip has a good selection of wrecks ranging
from Roman galleys to an Austro-Hungarian liner and second
world war shipping.
Another versatile location for scuba diving is Vela
Luka
the Island of Korčula. Underwater world of Vela Luka as the
most complex and the most interesting in the Mediterranean.
In the central part of croatian Adriatic Sea, about 15 Nm to
the west from Šibenik town, 7Nm to the southwest from
Murter
, or 15 Nm to the south from Zadar
town, there
is amazing group of islands named Kornati archipelago.
The Kornati area is virtually inexhaustible in its variety
of locations offering quite specific types of underwater
relief: steep walls teeming with life, underwater caves,
crevices and passages covering a large area of northern
Dalmatia.
There are numerous scuba diving centers and clubs along the
coast of Croatia.
They organize scuba diving courses for both , the beginners,
experienced divers and snorkeling courses for children. All
courses are very affordable and highly professional .
They also hire equipment and offer excursions in the most
beautiful locations.

BEST WINDSURFING LOCATIONS IN CROATIA
Premantura
(Pula)
In Premantura, which is the most outer part of Istrian
peninsula, a pleasant Southeastern wind blows in summer
suitable for windsurfing-beginners, while bura and strong
jugo winds blow in the fall and springtime.
Because of the favorable blowing direction of the wind
(directly towards land), bura in Premantura is not
dangerous because it will bring you directly to the shore in
case of an accident. Jugo, on the other hand, causes waves
as big as 2 or 3 meters because of the shallowness of the
sea and makes Premantura to a well-known wave spot. During
those times you can surf big waves on short boards.
Ravni and
Rabac
Near Ravni, a place south of Labin, the part of the channel
between land and coast of the island of Cres is the
narrowest. Pleasant warm winds that blow from the Southwest
reaching up to 15 notches create good conditions for
windsurfers. One other favorable spot for windsurfing is
situated near Rabac - a strong and constant wind is created
by bura that blows from Velebit and big waves appear
suitable for surfers - free riders.
Preluk (Volosko near
Opatija)
Favorable winds blow for surfers and windsurfers in Preluk
Bay not far from Volosko early in the morning and during
night because of the temperature difference between land and
sea. Conditions for surfing are best in the beginning of
autumn because winds can then turn to tramuntane during the
night. Surfers often come in the night and start to surf in
the dark waiting for dawn on the waves.
Punat and
Baška(island
of Krk)
The island of Krk is definitely a good place to windsurf,
and depending on your surfing skills you can choose between
two locations: Baška and Punat. Since a strong bura blows
directly towards Baška from direction of Senj, wind speed
