BETINA - ISLAND MURTER
According to legend, the name of the village Betina comes from the old Celtic word "bet" which means - the mouth and very picturesque describes the appearance of the Betina port. When Betina is approached from the sea, the peninsula which is part of the old stone Betina like lips forms a natural harbor and protects fishing boats. Betina is a tourist village on the north coast of the northern dalmatian island of Murter, the largest island of the Sibenik archipelago and is connected to the mainland by a bridge at Tisno. Betina is 31km away from Sibenik, and 6km from Tisno.
The town was first mentioned in 16th century and the population is engaged in viticulture, olive growing and fishing. Shipyard and marina Betina was founded in 1948th on the tradition of betinian shipbuilding in wood, dating from the 18th century. Shipyard activities are construction and repair of wooden boats and their maintenance, then repair and maintenance of steel, aluminum and polyester boats.
The marina has 200 berths and 80 more dry berths.
